Merry Christmas!

In the spirit of Christmas, here is a nice big Haddon Sundblom scan. Haddon is most well known for having defined the look of the stereotypical Santa Claus that we now are all so familiar with. Click on the image and just look at the amazing edge control this guy displayed.

  2. Beautiful, but the faces are absolutely terrifying!

  3. Awesome stuff! The art is amazing also considering that Mr. Sundblom worked with a thick impasto from what I've read.

  4. As cheesy and/or terrifying as the subject matter may be, the guy definitely knew what he was doing! I love the way he's only hinted at the christmas tree, but it looks perfectly naturalistic. I also like the bright pink on Santa's fingertips. And, naturally, I always love hi-res scans...

  5. I don't think we'll ever see anyone out there again who painted like the great Haddon Sundblom. It's amazing that his Coca-Cola Santa and his Quaker Oats man still remain with us to this day.
